Ingredients

1 batch of Gluten Free Pie Dough recipe using Hand + Heart GF All Purpose Flour
3/4 cup Apple Butter Spread recipe or more
1 large granny smith apple

Cinnamon Sugar Crust:
3 tablespoons heavy cream or dairy free milk
3 tablespoons granulated sugar
3 tablespoons light brown sugar, packed
3 tablespoons ground cinnamon

 

Instructions

INSTRUCTIONS:

  1. Line 2 baking sheets with parchment paper.  Set aside.
  2. In a small bowl, peel, core and dice apple into 1/4 inch cubes.  Mix with the Apple Butter Spread adding more if needed until the apples are well coated with a little spread remaining in the bowl.  Set aside.

 

Prepare your dough:

  1. Divide pie dough into 2 equal parts.  Roll out to a 12 x 12 inch square.  Cut the pie sheet in half and then cut each half into 6 equal rectangle, about 4×6 inch each.  Repeat with the other half of dough.  You will cut 12 equal rectangle total.

 

Fill your dough:

  1. Preheat oven to 425ºF.
  2. With a 4×6 inch dough, lightly brush the edges of the dough and center with milk or cream.  Add about 1 tablespoons of apple butter mixture on the center half of the dough.  Do not overfill.  The pie will burst open if you do.
  3. Fold the other half of the dough over the filling.  Press the edges firmly to seal and use a fork to crimp the edges on all 4 sides.  Your pie should be about 4×3 inch in size.

 

Coat your pie:

  1. In a small bowl, mix the sugars and cinnamon and whisk until well blended.
  2. Use a brush and brush the top of the pie liberally with cream or milk and sprinkle the cinnamon sugar mixture on the dough.  Repeat on the bottom part side.
  3. Place on a the prepared baking sheets spacing them about 2 inches apart.
  4. Cut 2 slits on top of the pie and bake for 20 minutes or until golden brown.
  5. You will have melted sugar surrounding the pies.  It will be very hot!  Carefully remove the pies and transfer them in a cooling rack.  Let rest for 5 – 10 minutes before eating.
